Xeri

Xeri or Kseri ( Greek Ξερή ) is a card game for 2 people, which is preferably played in Greece with a 52 hand (poker game) without jokers . It is similar to the Turkish card game Pişti .

regulate

The aim of the game is to get more points than your opponent. The game is played in several rounds until one of the players has at least 37 points.

Game flow

6 cards are always given to the two players and played alternately. At the beginning 4 cards are laid out face up on the table. Every time the 6 cards in hand are played, 6 cards are dealt again to both players. The round ends when the last 6 cards have been played. The player who can take the last cards gets the remaining cards that are still face up on the table.

Take and discard cards

If a card that you discard reaches the value of one or the sum of several place cards, you may take these cards. The same applies to pictures (jack, queen and king). The ace counts 1 point and all number cards have their printed value. For example, by discarding a 6, you can take an already lying 6 or you can take the 3 and 4 that are already lying with a 7. Images cannot be combined. If you cannot pick up any cards, you must discard a free card.

Combine cards

You can also combine a card with the place card by placing a card and add the value . A player can put a 5 on a 3 lying down and say 8 out loud. In this case, the combined cards can only be taken with an 8. However, you can only combine if you are able to record the combination yourself. In the example, the player who combines on 8 must also have an 8 in hand and must take the combination before discarding a free card. He can also take other cards before taking the combination, but he cannot discard any free cards before taking the combination.

The other player can raise again if he has the matching cards. In the example above, the opponent can raise to 9 with an ace if they have a 9 in hand. In extreme cases, this can go up to a 10. If a player can completely empty the table, i.e. can pick up the last card lying down with a matching one, this is a Xeri and immediately earns the player 10 points. These recorded cards are placed separately and one card remains open so that the Xeri can be easily recognized when counting.

Points

The scoring includes:

  • Whoever has the most cards at the end of the round scores 4 points.
  • For each ace in the cards won you get 1 point.
  • The 2 of clubs counts one point.
  • The 10 of diamonds counts for 2 points.
  • Made a Xeri: 10 points.

You can get a maximum of 11 points in a round without Xeri. The importance of a Xeris is shown by receiving 10 points immediately.

Strategies

Tips for the game:

  • You should never leave two combinable number cards alone, otherwise you risk a Xeri.
  • If possible, you should leave your opponent 2 cards that cannot be combined, then he is under pressure and must either discard a free card or combine it with one of the number cards.
  • If you can, you should force your opponent to leave a Xeri at the table. It can happen that the opponent firmly combines one of three cards lying down. If you happen to have both remaining free cards in hand, you take one of them, the opponent must take the fixed combination next and you can get the Xeri yourself.
  • Xeris often come in series because the opponent has to play a single free card after a Xeri.
