Xiangxiang

The city of Xiangxiang ( Chinese 湘乡 市 , Pinyin Xiāngxiāng Shì ) is an independent city that belongs to the administrative area of the independent city of Xiangtan in the east of the Chinese province of Hunan . It has an area of 2,003 km² and has 890,000 inhabitants.
The site of the Dongshan Academy (Dongshan shuyuan jiuzhi 东山 书院 旧址), which was founded in 1895, has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 2006 (6-1007) .
