The Xihoumen Bridge ( Chinese  西 堠 門 大橋  /  西 堠 门 大桥 , Pinyin Xīhòumén Dàqiáo ) is a suspension bridge that, at 1650 meters , has the second largest span worldwide, after the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge . The road bridge train, consisting of the suspension bridge with a length of 2.7 kilometers and the access bridges on both sides, has a total length of 5.3 kilometers. It connects to four lanes, two in each direction, in China the islands Jintang and Cezi the archipelago Zhoushan in East China Sea . The structure is part of five large bridges that together create a connection between Zhoushan and mainland China. The Xihoumen Bridge was opened to traffic in 2008 after around four years of construction. The construction cost was approximately 2.48 billion yuan .

construction

The main bridge is a suspension bridge with a total length of 2713 m. The central opening has a main span of 1650 m. A special feature of the bridge is its asymmetrical construction in the side panels. In the northern field with a length of 578 m, the roadway hangs, as usual, on the supporting cables. On the other hand, in the 485 m long southern field, which is already on Jintang Island, the deck girder is supported by pillars. The 36 m wide, aerodynamically favorably designed roadway girder has two steel box girder cross-sections of 3.26 m high, which are arranged at a clear distance of 6.0 m and connected to one another by cross girders. The pylons are 211 m high and are each founded on 24 bored piles with a diameter of 2.8 m. They consist of reinforced concrete and are rigidly connected to one another in the transverse direction by three cross bars. The suspension ropes are up to 87 cm in diameter. The passage height for ships at high tide is 49.5 m with a clear passage width of 630 m.
