Xmarks was a software extension for various web browsers from the US company LastPass . It made it possible to manage personal web browser settings centrally and uniformly via the Internet , even if they come from different computer systems.
history
The company was founded in 2006 by Mitch Kapor under the name Foxmarks in San Francisco . It later changed its name to Xmarks .
On September 27, 2010, the company announced that it would discontinue its synchronization service on January 10, 2011. At the beginning of November 2010, Xmarks announced that there are several interested investors who want to continue the service. In December 2010, Xmarks was taken over by LastPass . LastPass discontinued Xmarks on May 1, 2018.
Functions
The software offered the option of centrally storing and managing bookmarks from web browsers on company servers . The user could synchronize bookmarks, passwords , their own history and the list of open tabs. The software was offered for the web browsers Firefox from version 3, Chrome , Internet Explorer from version 7 and Safari from version 3 on the Mac OS operating system. The latter two had restrictions.
