Xu Zechen ( Chinese  徐则臣 , Pinyin Xú Zéchén ; * 1978 in Jiangsu Province ) is a Chinese writer.

Life

Xu Zechen studied Chinese literature at Beijing University . In 2010 he participated in the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa . He works for the literary magazine Renmin Wenxue ( 人民 文学 , Rénmín Wénxué ).

Xu Zechen became known in 2006 for his novel Running through Beijing ( 跑步 穿过 中关村 , Pǎobù chuānguo Zhōngguāncūn ). In this book, he describes the life of Beijing street vendors who deal in forged documents and black copies of DVDs. The novel was recognized by the Chinese prose society as one of the best prose novels of the year in 2006 and the 2007 literary prize for newcomers. In 2009 it was published in German translation ( ISBN 978-3-8333-0599-3 ). Xu Zechen has also written other novels and short stories. Translations of his works are available in English, German, Dutch and Korean.
