The Barış Partisi ( Turkish for Peace Party , abbreviation BP ) was a Turkish political party that was close to the Alevi - Shiite community of Turkey. It is the second party of this type in Turkish political history , after the Unity Party of Turkey ( Türkiye Birlik Partisi ) from 1966 to 1981.
The Peace Party was founded on December 10, 1996 by members of the Republican People's Party (CHP) . Former managing director and CHP MP Ali Haydar Veziroğlu became general secretary.
After the failure in the parliamentary elections in Turkey in 1999 with 78,922 or 0.25% of the vote and zero parliamentary seats, the party congress decided to dissolve the party on May 9 of the same year.
