Xuanzhong Temple

The Xuanzhong Temple ( Chinese  玄 中 寺 , Pinyin Xuánzhōng Sì , English Xuanzhong Temple ) is a Buddhist temple in the northwest of Jiaocheng in the Chinese province of Shanxi . It is located in the Shibi Shan 石壁 山 Mountains, about 70 kilometers from Taiyuan and is also known under the names Shibi Temple (Shíbì Sì 石壁 寺) and Yongning Temple (Yǒngníng Sì 永宁 寺) . Its construction began in 472 during the time of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). It is the origin of the Chinese School of the Pure Land (and thus of the later Japanese Amitabha Buddhism ) to which Masters Tanluan昙鸾, Daochuo道绰 and Shandao善 导 belonged. The temple is one of the national focus temples of Buddhism in Han Chinese areas .
