Xundheit AG, the health insurance of the Sympany Group (until 2003 ÖKK Public Health Insurance Lucerne , then until November 2009 XUNDHEIT, Public Health Insurance Switzerland AG ) was a Swiss health insurance company based in Lucerne , which had belonged to the Sympany Group since 2009 . Xundheit had more than 51,000 policyholders and in 2007 generated premium income of 119 million Swiss francs. Basic insurance under the Health Insurance Act was the main business, with a share of almost 80 percent of total premium income.

history

The company emerged in 1914 as a public health insurance company in Lucerne from the merger of the health care institution for single journeymen , whose roots as a brotherhood of single journeymen go back to 1626, and the general workers' health insurance company . Over the course of time, the Lucerne Public Health Insurance Company has developed into an important health insurer in Central Switzerland . After the introduction of the Health Insurance Act in 1997, the Lucerne Public Health Insurance became an independent legal entity at the beginning of 1998 and converted into a non-profit-making stock corporation. At the beginning of 2004 the health insurance company was renamed Xundheit, Swiss Public Health Fund . In 2009, Xundheit was taken over by Sympany. It has been operating as Sympany since January 1, 2011.
