Yōrō Codex

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Yōrō-Codex ( Japanese 養老 ō Yōrō- ritsuryō ) is the 718 revision of the Taihō-Codex from the Taihō period (March 21, 701 to May 7, 704 ) because it dates back to the Yōrō period (17 November 717 to February 4, 724).

The revision took place under the aegis of Fujiwara no Fuhito , a member of the imperial court. The laws of the Chinese Tang dynasty (from 618) served as a model.

In this form, the law was applicable until the Meiji period (1868 to 1912). Over such a long period of almost 1200 years, of course, phases alternated more completely with those of only partial validity.

Is treated u. a. the form of the old Japanese state system - the hierarchy, salary and competence of civil servants as well as the criteria for filling state positions.

As a result of its long period of validity, the Yōrō Codex has had a major impact on the history of Japan .
