The Yosui Park ( Japanese 養翠園 , Yosuien ) is a transformation garden in the city of Wakayama , Japan. It is classified as a "beautiful landscape" ( 名勝 , meishō) within the cultural heritage of Japan .

The park

The park was created by Prince Tokugawa Harutomi ( 徳 川 治 寶 ), the 10th boss of the house of the Kishū-han , 1818–1827 within the princely area of Suiken goyōchi ( 水軒 御用 地 ). The park with a size of 3.3 hectares surrounds a pond of 1 hectare. It offered space for larger and smaller teahouses, of which the Yōsui-tei ( 養 翠 亭 ) and the only two tatami mats large Jissai-an ( 実 際 庵 ) have been preserved. Land reclamation has lost the view of the sea.

Park plan

The park is laid out on the coast and is in connection with the sea. The water level in the pond rises and falls with ebb and flow and changes its shape in the process. As in other changing gardens, the mystical China is quoted, here with its stone boats that are on the way to Mount Hōrai (i.e. Mount Penglai ). But real China also comes into its own with a quote from the long dam in the West Lake . After all, watching ducks watering and flying up is a pastime.
