Yachad (Germany)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yachad ( Hebrew "together") is a group of gay, lesbian or bisexual Jews founded in Cologne in 1995 in several major German cities (Cologne, Hamburg , Munich, etc.). Since most of the Jewish communities in Germany are conservative-Orthodox and are not very tolerant of homosexuals, the groups are committed to greater tolerance and a change in the discriminatory situation.

Yachad wants to create a framework in which it is possible to live Jewish and gay / lesbian together. Yachad does not see itself as an alternative to other institutions of the Jewish communities, but as a specific complement and part of the diverse Jewish life. Yachad has also developed its own Jewish prayers.

One of the highlights of Yachad is the annual Pride Parades, which Yachad participates in in several cities. The association is the only German member of the World Congress of Gay and Lesbian Jewish Organizations and a member of the Lesbian and Gay Association in Germany (LSVD).
