The Yapı ve Kredi Bankası A.Ş. (dt. Struktur- und Kreditbank Aktiengesellschaft ) is one of the largest private banks in Turkey. More than 81% of the shares are held by the joint venture Koç Finansal Hizmetler of Koç Holding and UniCredit .
history
The bank was founded in 1944 by Kazım Taşkent . In 1984 Mehmet Emin Karamehmets Çukurova Holding acquired the company and Hüsnü Özyeğin was CEO until 1987 . In 2003, Çukurova Holding reached an agreement with the Turkish banking regulator to sell most of the shares within two years. In 2005 the owners of Koçbank acquired the majority of shares in Yapı ve Kredi Bankası A.Ş. Today, the bank owned by the Koç Finansal Hizmetler (KFH), a joint venture of Koç Holding with the Italian UniCredit group. In 2006 Koçbank merged with Yapı Kredi and KFH received 80% of the shares.

Yapı Kredi is active in the private and business customer business and with Yapı Kredi Emeklilik A.Ş and Yapı Kredi Sigorta A.Ş. also in the insurance business. The subsidiary Yapı Kredi Emeklilik A.Ş is one of the largest pension and life insurance providers in the country. The subsidiary Yapı Kredi Sigorta A.Ş. is the second largest health insurer in Turkey.
