Yarhibol (merchant)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yarhibol ( Palmyrenian : yrhybwl ', also Jarhibol) was a merchant from Palmyra , who is known from an inscription on a statue plinth dated to the year 449 of the Seleucid era (= 138 AD). The inscription is written in two languages: Greek and Palmyrene. Accordingly, he was the son of a certain Lischamschu and came from the Aabei family. According to the inscription, he worked with merchants in Charax Spasinu and later also acted as envoy to King Orodes in Elymais . Several rulers of Elymais are known by the name Orodes, all of which are not dated, so it remains uncertain which ruler is meant by this name.
