Yasushi Nagao

Yasushi Nagao ( Japanese 長尾 靖 Nagao Yasushi ; born May 20, 1930 , † May 2, 2009 ) was a Japanese press photographer .

Life

Yasushi studied at Chiba University until 1953 . After completing his studies, he started working as a photographer for the Mainichi Shimbun daily from April 1953 .

He became internationally known for his photo of Otoya Yamaguchi's assassination attempt on the socialist politician Inejirō Asanuma . His picture won the 1960 Press Photo of the Year and the 1961 Pulitzer Prize for Photography .

Since January 1962 he worked as a freelance photographer.
