Yatsugatake South Base Observatory

The Yatsugatake South Base Observatory ( Japanese 八 ヶ 岳南 麓 天文台 , Yatsugatake Nanroku Tenmondai ) is an astronomical observatory in Hokuto in Yamanashi Prefecture on Honshū Island in Japan. It is listed under number 896 in the list of observatory codes .

Due to its proximity to the Tokyo metropolitan area , it is widely used, which is reflected in a large number of asteroid discoveries. The Japanese astronomer Yoshio Kushida worked there, in addition to making astronomical observations, on monitoring natural phenomena that precede earthquakes .
