Yehuda ben Meir

Yehuda ben Meir (also known as Yehuda ha- Kohen or Judah von Mainz ) was a rabbi , Talmud teacher, and traveler of the late 10th and early 11th centuries. His grandson was also Rabbi Yehuda ben Meir from Mainz / Magenza , who wrote the Sefer ha-Dinim which contains a compilation of his travels as well as those of other Jews in Eastern Europe. In his descriptions Przemyśl and Kiev are mentioned as trading places within the Radhanite network.

Rabbi Yehuda was Gershom ben Yehuda's leading teacher , and his work influenced the later writings of Rashi . Yehuda has also been referred to as "the great" and "the gaon ".
