Yehudit Kafri

Yehudit Kafri Meiri (* 1935 in En haChoresch / Galilee ) is an Israeli poet and writer .

Life

Kafri grew up in the kibbutz En haChoresch as the child of Polish Zionist immigrants, both of whom came from the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement . She studied literature at universities in Israel and the USA and then worked for years as an editor and translator at the Sifriat Poalim publishing house. After their marriage, she moved to Kibbutz Sasa , where she wrote her first book.

She later moved to Kibbutz Showal and wrote other volumes of poetry and a book about her childhood memories, which appeared in several editions. She now lives in Mazkeret Batya .

She became internationally known for her biography of Sophia Poznanska (1906–1942), the first love of her father Fischk Kempinsky in his native Kalisch .

So far, only a few of her poems have been translated into other languages, including Arabic, English, French, Spanish, German, Croatian and Russian.

In an advertisement that appeared in the daily newspaper " Haaretz " on October 5, 2003 , she and other authors supported the "moral right of air force pilots to refuse to attack the civilian population with rockets and bombs, even if the war on terrorism is taking place Price is."

Awards

Kafri has received numerous literary prizes, including the Israeli President's Prize.
