Yeo Guat Kwang

Yeo Guat Kwang (born January 27, 1961 in Singapore ) is a former Singaporean politician. From 1997 to 2015 he was a member of the Singapore Parliament as a member of the People's Action Party (PAP). He is currently Deputy Director General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC).

education

Yeo attended The Chinese High School in Singapore from 1974 to 1977 and Nanyang Junior College from 1978 to 1979 . In 1982 he moved to the National University of Singapore and graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social sciences and in 1987 obtained a postgraduate diploma in education from the National Institute of Education . In 2013, Yeo received a Master of Public Administration .

Career

education

Yeo began his professional career in 1987 as a teacher at Nanyang Junior College and in 1991 became a department head at Anderson Secondary School. From 1993 to 1996, he was a Specialist Inspector for Chinese in the Ministry of Education.

Labor movement

In 1997, he joined the labor movement as Executive Secretary of the Building Construction and Timber Industries Employees Union (BATU). In 2001, Yeo joined the Singapore Industrial and Services Employees Union (SISEU) as Executive Secretary . Later in 2007, he became Executive Secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Statutory Board Employees (AUSBE).

In January 2014, Yeo was appointed Deputy General Secretary of NTUC FairPrice , which has a close relationship with the Singapore government. In December 2016 he was promoted to Assistant Director General of NTUC.

Yeo is also chairman of the NTUC Center for Migrant Workers, which was established in 2009. He is also the head of the Domestic Workers Center and Director of Safety and Health at Work.

Until June 2012, Yeo was President of the Consumers Association of Singapore (CAS), a consumer protection organization founded by the NTUC.

politics

Yeo was a member of the parliament of the Cheng San Group Representation Constituency from 1997 to 2001, a member of the Aljunied Group Representation Constituency from 2001 to 2011 and a member of the Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency from 2011 to 2015 . During the general election in 2015 , he led the Aljunied GRC PAP team.

Yeo was a board member of the Public Utilities Board , Land Transport Authority and SPRING Singapore . He is currently a board member of the Singapore Agricultural and Veterinary Administration.

Private

Yeo currently holds administrative mandates at Asiagate Holdings and SIIC Environment Holding.

Previously, he was a director in other private companies, including Neo Group, Asia Water Technology, HLH Group, Japan Foods Holding and many more.
