The Yetnasteen (or Yetnessteen) is a plate-like menhir ( English Standing Stone ) about 2.2 m high. It stands at the foot of a hill at Faraclett Head in the north-east of Rousay , an island of Orkney in Scotland .

The Yetnasteen got its old Norse name from the Normans . Jotunna means giant or huge. This is a confirmation that such stones were also connected to the Old Norse, pagan belief on the Orkney . Nearby is the Stalled Cairn Bigland Round .

Legend

The legend has it that the giant fossilized after midnight of each new year which is about 300 m to the lake o'Skockness going to drink before he returns to his location. A similar legend concerns the Stane o 'Quoybune on Mainland . To what extent the legend goes back to Nordic models is unclear.
