Yezin Agricultural University

The Yezin Agricultural University (YAU) is the only University of Agricultural Sciences in Myanmar .

It is located in Yezin about 18 km north of Pyinmana and Naypyidaw .

history

University-level agricultural education in Myanmar began in 1924 with the establishment of the Agricultural College and Research Institute of Mandalay . In 1938 this institute became a department of Rangoon University. Students with a successful science exam from Rangoon University were admitted to the agricultural course and received the BSc (Agriculture) degree after two years of study. In 1947 the department was converted into a Faculty of Agriculture in Mandalay. The two-year agricultural course was extended to the three-year course in 1955 and from that year the BSc (Sericulture) degree was also awarded. The Faculty of Agriculture became independent from 1964 and renamed as Yezin Agricultural University in 1998.

Education

The university is subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Myanmar. Since 1978 there has been a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, and doctorates in agriculture are now possible. Each year at the university has around 200 students.
