The Rethval Point is an ice-free headland on the east coast of Signy Iceland in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It forms the south side of the entrance to Paal Harbor and at the same time the eastern boundary of the entrance to Rethval Cove , a side bay of Paal Harbor.
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations conducted a survey in 1933. The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey repeated this in 1947. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the headland in 1955 after the Oslo- based Aktieselskabet Rethval , who was the first company to whale in the waters around the Southern Orkney Islands between 1911 and 1912 .
