Yielden Castle is an Outbound castle in the municipality Yielden in the English County Borough of Bedford . Only earthworks remain from the 12th century castle .

Details

Yielden Castle can also be found in documents as Yeldon Castle , Yelden Castle , Giuelden Castle or Yielding Castle . It was a moth with two courtyards. Yielden Castle was first mentioned in 1173. The Trailly family used it as a fortress until the 13th century. In 1360 it was already described as derelict.

Excavations were carried out on the site in 1881 and 1882. A stone curtain wall from the 13th century was found at that time . Today little more than the earthworks of a mound and a few other remains remain of the castle . Yielden Castle is a Scheduled Monument .
