Yimkin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yimkin was a British formula junior team in the early 1960s.

The Yimkin Engineering Company was founded in the 1950s by Don Sim and Mike Handley with the aim of building “economical” Formula Junior cars. By tuning BMC engines, the company had created a financial background to enter the monoposto business.

The vehicles with the type designation FJ had a tubular frame and a front engine ( Ford and BMC). The small car had front wheels, rack-and-pinion steering and a rigid axle at the rear, suspended separately from double wishbones. The whole thing was clad with an aluminum body. Since only two Formula Junior cars could be sold, the end of Yimkin was in sight. The company closed its doors forever at the end of 1960. Don Sim later built the Diva GT , a British sports car.
