Yli-ii

Yli-Ii [ ˈyliˀiː ] ("Ober-Ii", Swedish historically Överijo ) was a northern Finnish community on the Iijoki River .
It has been a separate municipality since 1923, before the place belonged to the then dissolved municipality of Suur-Ii ( Groß-Ii ). The municipality's politics were dominated by the Finnish Center Party , which provided fourteen of the 21 representatives on the municipal council. The left alliance represented three MPs, four were non-party. The community belonged to the Oulunkaari administrative community . Since January 1, 2013, Yli-Ii has been part of the municipality of Oulu.
The community has seen a significant population decline over the past few decades. In 1968, when construction work on a hydroelectric power station on Iijoki was underway, the population was 3931.
The place covers an area of 793.32 km 2 , of which 24.11 km 2 are inland water. The formerly independent municipality had the municipality number 972. At the time the municipality was dissolved on December 31, 2012, it had 2,149 inhabitants, the population density was 2.8 inhabitants / km².

Attractions
The Stone Age village of Kierikki is located in Yli-Ii. The museum building is the largest modern log cabin in Northern Europe. The houses of the Stone Age village were built with the means available at the time and are open to visitors. A wooden church from 1932 is also worth seeing .
Former community policy
The dominant political force in rural Yli-Ii is the Center Party . It received 70% of the vote in the 2008 local elections, one of the best results in Finland. It has 16 of 21 members of the local council. The left-wing alliance was able to win three seats , one each for the right-wing populist “ True Finns ” and one for the Social Democrats . The conservative National Collection Party , on the other hand, failed with a vote of only 0.7% when it entered the local council.
