Yorick

Yorick (also Yorik , Yoric or Yorrick ) is a male given name . It is a Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon variant of Georg . In Scandinavia, the Jorck variant is also common. The name is known, among other things, for the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare ("Alas, poor Yorick!" - Fifth Act, First Scene).

It has been believed that Shakespeare was referring to the famous clown Richard Tarleton, who is also weeping in John Dowland's melancholy lute play Tarleton's Resurrection , with Yorick .
