Yorikane Masumoto
Yorikane Masumoto ( Japanese 桝 本 賴 兼 , Masumoto Yorikane ; born January 29, 1941 in Manchukuo ) is a Japanese politician and was the 25th mayor of Kyoto from February 1996 to February 2008 .
Masumoto was born in Manchuria in 1941. At the age of four, he and his parents returned to Japan and settled in Kyoto Prefecture . Masumoto grew up in Kumihama , a community that rose in 2004 in the city of Kyōtango .
Masumoto studied at Chūō University , from whose law faculty he graduated in 1963 .
In 1996 he was first elected mayor of Kyoto. In this role, he was also president of the 1994 founded League Historical Cities ( League of Historical Cities , LHC).
