Yosri Fouda

Yosri Mohammad Mostafa Fouda (* 1964 ) is an Egyptian investigative reporter, author and television presenter.

Life

Fouda studied mass communication at the University of Cairo and the American University in Cairo , where he obtained his Masters in 1992 . With a scholarship from the British Council , he was able to continue his PhD studies at the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow .

When the BBC was looking for an Arab reporter, he interrupted his studies and from 1994 to 1996 he helped found the BBC Arabic Service . He reported on the Bosnian War of Independence and events in the Middle East and Africa. He then moved to Associated Press Television News in London, where he also co-founded the Arab News Network .

In 1996 he became a correspondent for the newly formed Al Jazeera for the United Kingdom and Western Europe. From 1998 to 2009 he directed the monthly program Sirri lil-Ghaya (Top Secret). In 2010 he switched to the Egyptian broadcaster ONTV in Cairo, where he directed the talk show Akhir Kalam and reported on the Egyptian revolution.

Foudra hosted his last broadcast in Egypt on September 25, 2014.

Foudra was recruited by Deutsche Welle in 2016 for the program "The Fifth Estate" . Government agencies in Egypt criticized Foudra's contribution in "The Fifth Estate" to the planned transfer of the islands of Sanafir and Tiran to Saudi Arabia in 2016 and accused Deutsche Welle of running an "anti-Egyptian" campaign.

In September 2018, Fouda separated from Deutsche Welle. The reasons are currently the subject of legal proceedings.
