You-Il Kang has been a freelance writer since 1975. Several of her books were bestsellers in South Korea.
The subjects of her novels are e.g. B. Euthanasia and Terrorism. The protagonists are all border crossers: for example, an actor who helps his terminally ill brother to die; a revolutionary fighter who wants to realize his utopia by means of a time bomb . In order to implement a utopia in which there is neither oppression nor violence, one has to be ready to kill someone - a primordial paradox in world literature .

She was a regular guest on numerous talk shows , e.g. B. Political controversy at midnight and the civil court .
Newspaper novels have a long and important tradition in South Korea. For a long time she wrote columns under her own name. In 1988 she was appointed a member of the Broadcasting Commission by the Seoul Olympic Committee. She is a regular columnist for German topics in the Korea Times .
As a result of personal strokes of fate, she moved to Germany in 1995 and had a ten-year break from writing. During this time she studied prose, drama and new media at the German Literature Institute Leipzig (DLL) at the University of Leipzig .
She has been a guest lecturer at the DLL since 2001. Her seminars deal with the comparison of European and East Asian literature as well as research techniques .
