Younus Shaikh
Younus Shaikh (born May 30, 1952 in Chishtian ) is a Pakistani doctor , human rights activist, rationalist and free thinker .
Life
Shaikh studied medicine in Pakistan and Ireland .
In 1992 Shaikh founded the rationalist organization "The Enlightenment", of which he became president. This is how Islamic fundamentalists became aware of him. He was arrested in October 2000 and sentenced to death in August 2001 following a bogus blasphemy charge. After a review of the verdict, he was released in November 2003. Today he lives as a recognized refugee in Switzerland .
