Ytraberget

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ytraberget is a peninsula in the Hafrsfjord , which lies in the north of the Jæren coastal landscape . The peninsula belongs to the municipality of Sola in Norway and is known for the battle in 872 when Harald Fairhair (Harald Hårfagre) united Norway into one kingdom. Snorri Sturluson reports in his Chronicle Heimskringla that Harald from a fortress on Ytraberget won the battle.

In fact, there are still remains of a fortification from the time of the Great Migration . King Olav V unveiled a memorial stone on the Ytraberg in 1972 on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the creation of Norway.
