The city of Yushu ( Tibetan ཡུས་ ཧྲུའ ུ , transcription after Wylie yus hru'u ; Chinese  玉樹 市  /  玉树 市 , Pinyin Yùshù shì ) is an independent city in the Tibetan Yushu Autonomous District in the Chinese province of Qinghai .

The seat of the government of the 13,462 km² district is Gyêgu (Tib .: skye rgu mdo / Jiégǔ Zhèn 结 古镇 ), a large community (zhen) that is gradually growing into a city. With around 60–70,000 inhabitants (including unregistered residents), it is the largest town in an area (Yushu County), the area of ​​which is almost the size of Great Britain. The great earthquake of Yushu on April 14, 2010, however, put most of the city in ruins.

Gyêgu Monastery (Chinese Jiegu si )

Its most famous sights include the temple of Princess Wencheng ( Tib.Nampar Namdze , Chin. Wencheng gongzhu miao ), the Sakyapa Monastery Döndrub Ling of Kyegu Do ( Chin.Jiegu si ) and Gyanak Mani in Xinzhai , all in the immediate vicinity of the Little town. Other important monastic institutions in the district are Domkar Gompa and Tranggu Gompa (both Karma Kagyu orders), Rabshi Lungshö in the village of Xia Laxiu and Surmang Dütsithil in the extreme southeast of the district. The latter is the home monastery of the famous in the West Lama Chogyam Trungpa .

Administrative structure

At the community level, the district is made up of four street districts , two large communities and six communities . These are:

  • Greater community Xialaxiu下拉秀镇
