Counting needle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A counting needle is an aid when measuring . When measuring with the measuring tape, the end points of the individual full tape lengths can be precisely marked with counting needles . They thus simplify the counting and checking of the measured distances and thus serve to avoid errors.

A counting needle is approximately 30 to 40 cm long and approximately 3 mm in diameter. It is made of stainless iron wire and is pointed on one side, while the other side is designed as a ring. Ten counting needles are usually combined into a bundle.

The counting needle is rarely found in practical use, since longer distances in surveying are now measured with total stations, with which a much higher accuracy can be achieved.

Zählnadeln also found in memory work as Zählhilfsmittel use: Each "heave", which the hook of a crane or lift hung, consisted of (agreed) the same number of individual pieces ( bag , box , collar , etc.) and was provided with a Zählnadel. If the number of counting needles you have taken with you is multiplied by the number of pieces of the individual pile, you get the stored inventory.
