Tenderness , from late mhd. ertlīcheit = grace , today mostly denotes a strong feeling of affection.

The meaning of tenderness is mostly out of date , so in 1801 Adelung's grammatical-critical dictionary of the High German dialect called tenderness as:

"Fine, texture; [...] because it is sometimes used for tenderness. The tenderness of the limbs, [...] the tenderness of the body, the health "

Tenderness was also used to describe the “ability to easily feel every, even weak, unpleasant impression from the outside” as well as the exaggerated avoidance of “all unpleasant impressions from the outside”. Pierer's Universal-Lexikon defined tenderness in 1865 both as "arising from pampering , increased sensitivity to somewhat unpleasant or well-being impairing external influences" as well

That by caressing , by looking u. Word, as well as carefully avoiding everything that might be unpleasant to the loved object, expressing feelings of love, etc. Affection . "
