The Zurich insurance Austria was one of the first foreign branches of contemporary Zurich Insurance Group already in 1876 in Vienna settled.
history
The Zurich Insurance Company (parent of today's Zurich Versicherungs-Aktiengesellschaft ) was founded in 1872 in Zurich. One of the first foreign branches was opened in Vienna in 1876.
Kosmos Allgemeine Versicherungs AG was founded in Vienna in 1910 . Initially, both companies - Zurich and Kosmos - existed side by side until the Zurich Insurance Company took over Kosmos in 1928 . The organizational unit Zurich Kosmos emerged from this deal .
The corporate law transformation of the organizational unit Zürich Kosmos did not take place until 1979, when Zürich Kosmos Versicherungen AG officially came into being. A brand name that is still familiar to many today, although the insurance company has been called Zurich Insurance Corporation since 2002 .
The Zurich Insurance Company since the year 1928 in the historic building Palais oven home on Schwarzenbergplatz located right in the center of Vienna.
In 1999, in addition to the classic sales channels broker and field service, direct sales were also launched. Initially started as a pure telephone sales of insurance products under the name Züritel, this sales channel now focuses on the online business under the new Europe-wide uniform brand name Zurich Connect (name change: November 2008) and is one of the direct insurers in Austria with the longest experience on the Internet.
The years 2001 and 2002 were marked for Zürich Kosmos by taking over the insurance and pension fund of Winterthur in Austria. From this company merger, the Zurich Insurance Corporation emerged in 2002 . The previous Winterthur pension fund was continued as BONUS Pensionskassen AG . In addition, in 2002 BONUS Employee Pension Funds AG was founded (together with Generali).

In 2006, the result from ordinary business activities ( EGT ) of Zurich Insurance Austria was EUR 25.8 million. In life insurance, premium income of EUR 153.4 million was achieved; In property-casualty insurance, gross premium income was EUR 314.9 million.
2004
In 2004, Zurich Insurance Austria had EGT of EUR 23.8 million. In property / casualty insurance, gross premiums of EUR 275.6 million were offset, and in life insurance, premium income of EUR 118.8 million was generated. The portfolio of investments was reported at 1.49 billion euros.
