Zambia Forestry College

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zambia Forestry College (ZFC) in Kitwe is the training center for forestry in Zambia . His diploma is recognized by the University of Westminster for a BA degree. The ZFC is subordinate to the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources.

The ZFC was founded in 1949 to train game rangers . This is not entirely unimportant, because the roots are more strongly in tourism than in forestry. This accent is still valid today, especially since the greater contribution to the gross national product is seen in tourism and not in forest as such, although international pressure on the latter is growing steadily.

The ZFC teaches forestry and computer applications. It maintains a database of environmental data. The ZFC is affiliated with the Copperbelt University . On average, 22 students graduate each year with a university degree, 18 with a college degree and 19 with a college certificate.

In recent years, the ZFC has written less about the use of forests than about the disappearance of them through charcoal production . There is no data on deforestation and no data on management decisions. All efforts in this direction are considered unsystematic. All information about deforestation, forest cover and stocks come from external sources. The last forest inventory in Zambia dates from the early 1970s. A cooperation with the Natural Resources Development College cannot be specified.
