history

The pliers have been part of Siegburg since 1906. Before that, she was part of the Siegburg-Mülldorf community in the Menden (Rhineland) district . “Die Zange” was initially the area around today's Berliner Platz, which now still bears the field name “Auf der Zange”. The house "Zur Zangen" stood there, named after an Elias Zangen who was mentioned in city books in 1429/30.

The present-day district of Zange was officially designated as "Ortschaft Zange" for the first time in 1858. In 1858 it had a total of 21 inhabitants, in 1861 there were 23, in 1864 then 40 and in 1875 117 people lived in this district. There was a (animal) horn processing factory there. The horn was boiled in large kettles, which earned the tongs the nickname "Hornpott".

The Bröltalbahn , renamed the Rhein-Sieg-Eisenbahn in 1921 , was one of the four railways that ended in Siegburg. The company premises on the Zange were limited by the Ladestrasse (today: Konrad-Adenauer-Allee), parts of the Hohenzollernstrasse, Hochstrasse, Ludwigstrasse and Katharinenstrasse. With the cessation of passenger traffic in 1951, the line was gradually closed.

The Catholic Church of St. Hedwig in Katharinenstrasse was consecrated on September 21, 1972 and is a branch church of the Catholic parish of St. Servatius.
