history

On October 4, 1071, Siegburg Abbey was granted jurisdiction in its area by royal deed; Kaldauen is mentioned for the first time in this document. A first settlement of this area by an estate belonging to the abbey in Siegburg (Villa Chaltoiva / Chaltouva) is also mentioned in 1071. From this time there are also finds that prove the ceramic production in the Lendersberg area from this time. You can still find piles of broken fire in the Kaldau Forest today . The Siegburg pottery had its origins in Kaldauen and arose earlier than the comparable ceramic production in the well-known Rhenish "pottery town" Frechen , which is only proven around 1500. Kaldauen was on an important trade route to Frankfurt am Main , which ran through the dry areas of the Siegtal.

The center of Kaldauen

After the town of Siegburg on the northern edge of Kaldauens had built the new housing estate "Am Sonnenhang" in the second half of the 1950s, the Catholic Church of Our Lady was built in 1958/59. The consecration took place by Auxiliary Bishop Wilhelm Cleven on May 7, 1959 (Ascension Day). Originally it belonged to the municipality of Seligenthal, in March 1960 the parish seat was moved from Seligenthal to Kaldauen. Until June 30th, 2009 Liebfrauen was the seat of the parish of St. Marien, which, in addition to Kaldauen, included the districts of Stallberg, Seligenthal and Braschoss . On July 1, 2009, the parish was dissolved and united with the surrounding urban parishes of St. Anno Siegburg, St. Dreifaltigkeit Wolsdorf, St. Elisabeth Deichhaus, St. Joseph Brückberg and St. Servatius Stadtmitte to form the large parish of St. Servatius.

The Evangelical Church Community Siegburg-Kaldauen built the Friedenskirche in 1962/63; the municipality, which had previously belonged to Siegburg, became independent on January 1, 1964. In addition to Kaldauen, it includes the districts of Stallberg and Seligenthal.

Another new residential area emerged north of the forest cemetery in the early 1970s. After that, the settlement also extended to the floodplains towards Sieg. In 2002 the new three- to four-storey, semicircular Kaldauer Zentrum was completed on one side of the main street with a 5900 square meter retail space.
