Zashiki Warashi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zashiki Warashi ( Japanese 座 敷 童子 , dt. "Zimmerkind") are Yōkai corresponding to house spirits in the Japanese prefecture of Iwate . They protect the houses that they house and the people who live in the houses.

Although they play pranks on people every now and then, Zashiki Warashi are welcome guests because they bring happiness and prosperity into the house. But if a Zashiki Warashi is upset, he leaves the house and the family is doomed.

Zashiki Warashi are shown as little girls in kimono with a page cut . It is said that sometimes you can hear them use spinning wheels. More rarely, Zashiki Warashi take the form of little boys.

Zashiki Warashi are predominantly associated with traditional Japanese houses, less often with new buildings. They should only be seen by family members, but they should be heard by others (they are even said to behave like poltergeist ).
