Zbigniew Turek

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zbigniew Turek , pseudonym Adam Śreżoga (* 1917 , † 1997 ) was a Polish poet . His most famous poem is called Runą ( Eng . “They will fall”) and was once incorrectly attributed to Czesław Miłosz .

Runą

The four-stanza poem was published in 1939 in the magazine Czerwony Sztandar (Red Flag). It superficially praises Stalinism . It does not praise Josef Stalin , but criticizes the Soviet occupation of eastern Poland by a hidden reading, ignoring the censorship , and pays homage to the freedom of the Polish people.

Readings

If the stanzas are read from top to bottom (1-2-3-4), they honor Stalin . If, however, they are rearranged and read from left to right (1-3-2-4), the poem clearly criticizes the Soviet regime.

An official, German-language translation in verse form proves to be difficult due to the linguistic finesse of the Polish language and is not yet available.
