Mining history

On October 7, 1852, the square was awarded to Argus . On July 13, 1856, the Geviertfeld Argus II was awarded. In 1866 the mine was demonstrably in operation, hard coal was mined. In 1867, 18,972 tons of hard coal and an additional amount of iron ore that were not quantified were mined. In 1869 only hard coal was mined, with the production dropping to 1,054 tons. The Argus colliery was closed in 1870.

In 1874 and 1875 the mine was probably back in operation. In 1905 the Argus quarter was slammed into the United Trappe colliery. The Argus II quarter field was reopened in 1920 under the name Argus II colliery.
