The Fettlappen colliery is a former hard coal mine in the southern quarter of downtown Essen . The colliery was also known under the name Zeche Vettlappen or Zeche Zum Fettlappen . The mine was located near today's Bismarckstrasse.
history
The beginnings
The mine was already in operation in the 16th century. The prospect for the mine was introduced in 1760. On April 28, 1764, the shareholders took over the old mining fields Landskrone and Backstadtbank of the Secretarius mine . In the same year the award for the dismantling of seam fat bank took place. Presumably, this part of the field was then renamed the Secretariusak colliery, at times it was also called the Riecken & Fettlappen colliery . Until the consolidation, the name Zeche Fettbank prevailed. There is evidence that the mine was in operation in 1766. In 1787, mining was also carried out in the Rieckenbank and Krabben seams .
The last few years
In the second half of the 18th century there were repeated ingress of water. Since the mine had flooded several times over the years and there was a risk of water being drained in front of the Kettwiger Tor, operations ceased in 1789. However, there was little mining in the city and monastery area. At that time the mine was operating the Reinhold shaft . On February 19, 1805, the company was consolidated into the United Hope & Secretarius Aak colliery .
