The Große Bovermannswiese colliery is a former coal mine in Essen-Werden- Hamm. The mine was also known as the Great Bovelsmannswiese colliery . The colliery was shut down several times during its operating time and then started up again.

Mining history

Several awards took place in 1793, 1795 and 1798 . In 1832 a joint tunnel was operated with the Quetterbank colliery . At first, prospecting work was carried out, from May of the same year the Great Bovermannswiese colliery was shut down. After the mother seam was opened up by the communal tunnel in 1840 , the mine was put back into operation in September of the same year. In the same year mining began and a coal deficit was created on the Ruhr. On June 6, 1846, the Große Bovermannswiese colliery was shut down again due to a lack of sales. On June 14, 1849, two length fields were awarded.

In 1850 the mine was back in operation. From the 3rd quarter of 1853, the mine went into production again. In 1859, a cloudburst flooded the mine workings . The colliery was demonstrably in operation in 1860, and a shaft was sunk in the same year . After the mine was in operation from 1861 to 1869, it was finally closed in 1870. On September 1st, 1873, there was consolidation with other mines to form the Kaiserin Augusta colliery .

Promotion and workforce

The first production figures of the mine come from the year 1841, in that year 7,697 Prussian tons of hard coal were produced . In 1842 the production sank to 4105 Prussian tons. In 1845, 136,675 bushels of hard coal were mined. In 1846 the production dropped to 5,692 bushels. In 1858 production rose to 13,181 bushels of hard coal. The first workforce numbers are named for the year 1861, in that year 4598 Prussian tons of coal were mined with ten miners . In 1867, six miners extracted 400 tons of hard coal. The last known production and workforce figures for the mine are from 1869, in that year 288 tons of hard coal were extracted with five miners.
