Mining history

Not much is known from the early days of the mine. The mine was in operation earlier, but was then closed. In 1867 the mine was put back into operation. The Berechtsame included into this year square box . In 1870 the narrow-gauge railway from the Wodan colliery, which was closed at the time, was used for transport to the Kidneyhof station. In 1881 the mine was closed again, but it was opened again in 1883. The mine was shut down in 1884 and reopened the following year. In 1888 the Gustav Carl colliery was finally shut down. In 1897 the rightful owner of the Hopesthal colliery was added.

Promotion and workforce

The first production figures of the mine come from the year 1867, in that year 1087 bushels of hard coal were produced . In 1870, 5664 tons of hard coal were mined. The first workforce at the mine dates back to 1872, in that year 27 miners were employed at the colliery who produced 6196 tons of hard coal. The maximum production of the mine was achieved in 1873, 8917 tons of hard coal were produced. In 1875 the production sank to 5048 tons of hard coal, this production was done with 21 miners. In 1878 there was a drastic drop in production, with three miners only 679 tons of hard coal were extracted. In 1883 there was again a slight decrease in production to 614 tonnes of hard coal; the workforce remained constant at three miners. The last known production and workforce figures for the mine are from 1886; in that year, six miners extracted tons of hard coal in 2017.
