The Gute Hoffnung V colliery is a former coal mine in Witten- Borbach. The colliery was a small colliery and emerged from the Klara colliery , the colliery was located on the street Große Borbach 11 and was only in operation for a few years.

Mining history

On July 25, 1951, the small mine with the name Zeche Klara in Große Borbach was put into operation. This small mine was owned by the Klara union. In the same year a shaft was sunk , which was called the Wippermann shaft. In the following year, the maximum production of the Klara mine was provided by 36 miners , it amounted to 6549 tons of hard coal . In 1955 1795 tons of coal were 21 miners mined . On January 1st, 1956, the Klara colliery was renamed the Gute Hope V colliery. At the same time, there was a change of ownership, with Erwin Schmidt becoming the new owner. In the following year, 33 miners mined 4,587 tons of hard coal. On March 31, 1958, operations at the Gute Hoffnung V colliery ceased.

On May 14th, 1963, the mine was put back into operation together with the Kleinzeche Borbachtal. In the length fields Auguste, Bergmann , Prudens, Bernadotte, Kortmannsglück, Neues Kortmannsglück, turnpike 1 and turnpike 2, beautiful view , Prussian eagle, beginning with God and wonderful. In 1963 the maximum production was achieved by 65 miners, it amounted to 5281 tons of hard coal. In 1965, 29 miners extracted 4,098 tons of hard coal. The following year, the Gute Hoffnung V colliery was shut down.
