The Knappbank colliery was a hard coal mine in the Sprockhövel district of Niedersprockhövel . The colliery was also known under the name Zeche Knapbanck or Zeche Knapp & Knappbank . Despite its 120-year history, little is reported about the mine.
Mining history
In the year 1739, it was noted in the documents “lies still” . A survey was carried out on October 7 of the same year . In the years 1755, 1758 and 1759, 1766 and 1769 the mine was demonstrably in operation. The mine was in operation again around 1775. Before 1867 , the Knappbank colliery consolidated with the Diefhausen colliery to form the Knappbank & Diefhausen colliery. Very little is reported about the Diefhausen colliery. After being awarded a square , the Diefhausen colliery was only in operation for ten years until it was consolidated. After the consolidation, the new mine was initially in operation. In 1867 the mine was closed in time limits . In October 1880, the Knappbank & Diefhausen colliery consolidated with further mines to form the Sprockhövel colliery .
Current condition
Today in Sprockhövel only a Pingenfeld , which is located in the Brelo forest, reminds of the Knappbank colliery. This Pingen field probably also shows traces of the mining activities of the Knappbank colliery.
