The Lappenberg colliery is a former hard coal mine in Witten- Rüdinghausen. The mine was also known as the Lappenbergsbanck colliery in the 18th century . Despite its more than a hundred year history, little is reported about the mine.

Mining history

The mine was already in operation around 1750. The tunnel mouth hole was located in the Brunebecke, later this tunnel was also referred to as the upper tunnel . The mine was probably in operation around 1793, but it was decommissioned by 1796 at the latest. From 1826 the mine belonged to the Johannes Erbstollen. On February 22nd, 1853, a square was awarded . At that time the mine was still part of the Johannes Erbstollen. In 1882 the ownership changed and the mine now belonged to the Gottessegen colliery . After 1945 the mine was put back into operation, this time under the name Zeche Gute Hoffnung III - VI.
