Zefix is the central company index in Switzerland .

Database

The portal of the Federal Office for the commercial register contains all legal persons and institutions under public law entered in the commercial register (or in the individual cantonal commercial registers) as well as partnerships and sole proprietorships, provided they are entered in the commercial register. The database contains the most important information on the registered legal persons, sole proprietorships and institutions, etc. a. Legal form, seat, domicile, organs and the corresponding changes, but no individual documents. These, like the commercial register itself, are public (Article 930 OR) and can be inspected at the commercial register offices.

Zefix is a registered service mark of the Swiss Confederation and is subordinate to the Federal Office of Justice .

Legal bases

The basis for the Zefix are Articles 13 and 14 of the Commercial Register Ordinance of October 17, 2007 and Article 929a of the OR in the version in accordance with the Federal Act of December 19, 2003 on the Electronic Signature. The Zefix already existed before, however, the data of all cantons have only been online since January 1, 2008 (entry into force of the new commercial register ordinance) (because electronic publication has only been mandatory since then).

Meaning of the zefix

The Zefix has no legally binding effect. This only applies to the certified copies of the commercial register, which can, however, be ordered via the Zefix. What exactly the legal effect of the commercial register (and thus its extracts) is, however, is controversial; namely, whether false entries are a basis of trust for the good believer (question of the public belief of the commercial register , on this the dissertation by Hans-Ueli Vogt ).
