A toe shoe is a form of barefoot shoe with a thin, flexible sole that adapts to the shape of the ground and thus comes closer to walking barefoot . In contrast to other "barefoot shoes", a toe shoe has a separate compartment for each toe, similar to a glove, and thus adapts to the shape of the human foot more easily than traditional shoes. Such a shoe should enable the sensation and the advantages of walking barefoot and at the same time reduce the risk of injury (for example from pebbles or rough surfaces).

A patent for a leather toe shoe similar to a normal leather shoe is known from 1907 (patent from Max Mannesmann). One example is exhibited in the German Leather Museum in Offenbach am Main .
