The Scherling-Stadel as it was in October 2011

description

The core of the building, made of field and rubble stones, presumably dates back to the 17th to 18th centuries. The broad, sedate building has a mighty roof structure.

history

More recently, the building was no longer used as a barn (in Bavarian "barn"), but served as a warehouse for a glazing factory. After this it was given the name that is used today. At least this use halted further deterioration. The Scherling-Stadel currently serves as a storage room for the Sulzbach-Rosenberg City Museum. Structural measures primarily served to safeguard the existing building. In local politics, the Scherling-Stadel is not seen by everyone as a monument worth preserving. In a city council meeting in 2009, the extension of the study area “Old Town Sulzbach” to the Scherling-Stadel was rejected and instead the demolition of the building for the redesign of the so-called “Raschke intersection” was discussed again. In January 2018, the demolition was discussed again in the city council. He should create space for vehicle parking spaces, which was clearly rejected by the monument office. Previously, the archaeologist and winner of the culture award of the city of Sulzbach-Rosenberg Mathias Hensch had recognized its importance and compared it with the importance of the Salzstadel in Regensburg.
