Zeiselhof

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zeiselhof is a Meierhofsiedlung in Deutsch Jahrndorf in Burgenland .

history

The manor belonged to the noble Zichy family for a long time and was later owned by the married couple Elemér Lónyay and the widowed Crown Princess Stephanie von Habsburg , who ran a distillery and a mill at the court and bequeathed the court to the Archabbey of St. Martinsberg by will. After Burgenland was separated from Hungary in 1921, the manor came to Austria. Since the state border between Austria and Hungary cut through the Zeiselhof estate and thus all buildings were separated from the large agricultural areas in Hungary, it was agreed at the ambassadors' conference on February 8, 1922 that the harvested products could still be brought into the courtyard duty-free and that the workers with them Border crossing certificates are to be provided, which allow a border crossing at any time on the estate.

The Benedictines of St. Martinsberg-Pannonhalma live in the Zeiselhof . Since 2005 the Zeiselhof has been the seat of the Domus Religiosa Superiorat of the Hungarian Benedictines in Austria.

Pilgrimage Chapel of the Holy Cross

The Zeiselhof Chapel (2020)

The Zeiselhof chapel , also known as the Heilig-Kreuz pilgrimage chapel , consecrated in 1764 , was built by the Zichys and is a listed building. The pilgrimage "Lost Sheep" took place to her.

The chapel is a small, west- facing baroque building with a flat, round apse and a small roof turret over the east facade. The grid of the east portal with the year 1674 has an ornamented stone frame. The precious ceiling painting by Franz Anton Maulbertsch shows the redemption , in which the crucified is allegorically carried to God by angels.
